Minister De Crem sets up a Task Force to ensure uniform enforcement of the corona measures

2020, April 1

On the initiative of the Minister of Home Affairs and Security Pieter De Crem, a Task Force was set up today to ensure uniform enforcement of the corona measures by police forces. “It is undesirable and counterproductive to give too broad an interpretation to the federal measures taken in the fight against the coronavirus”, said Minister De Crem. “Both our police forces and our citizens need clarity : something is either allowed or forbidden. The current situation does not allow too many shades of grey”, according to the Minister De Crem.

Since the adoption of the federal measures against the coronavirus, the Crisis Centre of the Department of the Interior is one of the agencies that received thousands of questions from citizens about what is allowed and what isn’t anymore. The enforcement of these measures and monitoring of the compliance is a task for the entire integrated police force that has to come to an unambiguous implementation of the policy on the ground. “The Task Force GPI that has now been set up, has to make it possible to achieve this objective. The guidelines issued by the Task Force are of a binding nature. Only by all pulling together in the same direction can we defeat this virus and return to a normal life as soon as possible”, concludes Minister Pieter De Crem.
